Rethinking Talent Development
Increasing Instructional Capacity

Improving Student Teacher Supervision

Do the Right Thing, Don’t Just Do It Right

Supervision isn't Simply Evaluation

Supporting student teachers takes more than rating peformance. We must coach for growth.

University Supervisors Lack Training

Research indicates that cooperating teachers and supervisors both feel ill-equiped to coach candidates.

Increasing Field Work

We need systems to encourage insight, reflection, coaching, growth, and gains in student preparation.

These realities help ensure compliance but do not build the potential for continuous improvement of student success.

Forward Thinking about Calibration and Support

Growing Talent

Our feedback system, unlike other tools, focuses on talent growth rather than an inspection model.

Focus on Feedback

ReVIEW Talent Feedback System recognizes decades of research that feedback is central to learning. Building instructional capacity is no different.

Building Supervisor Capacity

ReVIEW Talent Feedback System is hyper focused at the local level. We want to improve your university supervisor rather than simply meet required mandates.

ReVIEW Talent Feedback System builds bridges between student teachers and supervisors. We coach for growth, not check for compliance.

Customize Locally

ReVIEW Talent Feedback System empowers universities by creating a fully customizable and responsive interface.

High Quality Observations

When you work with ReVIEW coaches and facilitators your university supervisors receive the tools they need to improve schools through faculty observation.

Student Teacher Supervisory Skills Developed Using the ReVIEW Talent Feedback System
Evidence cited is directly tied to the appropriate indicators of practice and accurately represents the levels of performance.
Define specific terms and phrases associated with teaching and learning from the rubric.
Describe specific “lookfors” and/or observable teacher and student behaviors for all indicators across performance levels.
Understand key levers and accurately select performance ratings.
Align evidence to appropriate indicator and performance level.
Use rubric language to make a claim about performance relative to the indicator and use the Claim, Connect, Action structure to write feedback.
Qualitative and quantitative evidence cited in feedback is aligned, appropriate and facilitates targeted growth and improvement.
Identify quantitative and qualitative data that can be collected during a classroom observation.
Determine how and when to collect each type of data.
Develop strategies (e.g.. When to time stamp, when and how to count students, whenusing charts, tech tools, tricks).
Determine the importance of captured evidence in analysis and how to use in feedback (e.g. why we counted hands raised and what it describes about teacher practice or student outcome).
Include the balance of data that validate performance level claims and include in Claim, Connect, Action structure to write feedback
Evidence cited is focused on meaningful student engagement learning and is directly connected to a specific teaching strategy and/or teacher action and act on students.
Define meaningful student engagement.
Develop strategies to collect evidence of engagement, construction of new learning and student understanding.
Analyze evidence and provide feedback that is directly connected to specific teaching strategies and resulting student outcomes.
Include evidence of teaching practice or choices in the Claim, Connect, Action feedback that explicitly demonstrates impact on student outcomes relative to intended learning.
Feedback contains areas of strengths and areas of growth explicitly connected to the indicator and observed practctices/evidence and are eloped based on indicator guage and the key levers between ratings
Cite effectively implemented research-‐based strategies as strengths.
Determine alternate actions and cite how the recommended strategy(ies) would improve teacher practice towards increased student outcomes.
Determine scaffolded next steps (for students and for teacher based on the strengths and evidence from observed lesson.
Develop reflective questions related to the observed lesson.
Use key levers to build action steps as part of the Claim, Connect, Action feedback.
Evidence is cited objectively and stated without opinion.
Recognize subjective and judgmental language or evidence.
Develop strategies to utilize quantitative and qualitative evidence to increase objectivity.
Feedback report serves as a comprehensive learning tool containing clearly articulated evidence-based feedback and explicit connections.
Develop an understanding of how a written feedback report can serve as a learning tool.
Clearly communicate in writing important findings from the observation.
Use full sentences within the Claim, Connect, Action structure vs. bullet points or fragmented evidence/quotes.

Evaluator Capacity

The ReVIEW Talent Feedback System is built on Revision Learning's Six characteristics of effective evaluators

  • Rubric Understanding

We need to connect observed evidence to appropriate indicators. The ReVIEW Talent Feedback system coaches evaluators and teachers through our intuitive user experience.

  • Qualitative and Quantitative Feedback

Effective teaching is so much more than tagged evidence. The ReVIEW Talent Feedback System encourages teachers and evaluators to use both qualitative and quantitative evidence aligned to indicators.

  • Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment

Instructional capacity increases when teachers get actionable feedback based on best pedagogical practices. The ReVIEW Talent Feedback system coaches evaluators through the Claim, Connect, Action method to ensure teachers focus on meaningful student engagement and learning.

  • Supportive Yet Critical Feedback

When educators receive feedback for growth directly connected to your indicators instructional capacity grows. The ReVIEW Talent Feedback System puts the focus on coaching and development not tagging of evidence.

  • An Awareness of Bias

We all have different lenses. The ReVIEW Talent Feedback System helps evaluators recognize their bias and provide the most objective feedback possible.

  • Clear Communication

Our system trains teachers to write effective feedback reports that are evidence driven. Using the Claim, Connect, Action method evaluators learn to make claims based on a framework, connect that claim to observed evidence, and then recommend actionable feedback.
